The story behind the story:
Children’s book author Margret Rettich was on her way to a children’s book fair in Italy with her husband. Their route took them past here. She asked the then landlady, Barbara Gubser-Pitschen, to tell her about her family history and quickly realized that it would be a good topic for a children’s book. Since then, the children’s book has not only been sold thousands of times, but also borrowed countless times from libraries.
